I went to go Angeles city, Pampanga for history

Holy Rosary Church

Holy Rosary Church in 1830
In 1830, the Augustinians renamed Culiat to Angeles   it was named after  its founder who “paid from his own purse a part of the expenses of the construction of the church” and also as way of custom its patron: Los Santos Angeles Custodio, The Holy Guardian Angels.

Our lady of the Holy Rosary Church
The patron saint of the church is Our lady of the Holy Rosary in her golden altar.

The paintings of the stations of the cross were painted by my grandmother Virginia Tancungco Tumarong:

Don Juan Nepomuceno ask Virginia Tancungco Tumarong to do an oil painting of the 14 stations of the cross which he donated to the Holy Rosary Church. Whith help from her former painting teacher from Philippine Normal School Delia Feriols to help her. the paintings are life size ( 6 feet by 4 feet). It took around 2 years to paint the station of the cross they were finish in 1954.

I felt appreciation because the church would not be complete without the stations of the cross that my grandmother painted.

Old municipal hall
Old Municipal Hall by Jose Abad Santos

Across the church is the old municipal hall. Constructed in 1922 during the term of Mayor Don Juan Nepomoceno, the building today houses the Museo Ning Angeles. Unfortunately, the museum was closed during our visit.

Jose Abad Santos - Feb. 19,1886- May 2, 1942

He give up his life to consecrate an idea that it is a rare opportunity not given to everyone to die for one's country.
